Cake

I baked a cake today. Now, for most people, that probably isn't a big deal, but I don't make cakes. I'll bake pies and breads and maybe even an occasional batch of cookies, but I almost never make cakes. (I think I've made one other cake since I've known Jimmy, and that was a coffee cake.) Anyway, I made a cake today. Granted, it was from a mix and the frosting was from a can, but I still built the cake. When I was making it, I realized that I've never assembled a 2-layer cake before, and I don't think I've ever frosted a cake that has been taken out of the pan. (Luckily, I remembered a few frosting tricks from frosting Christmas cookies with Mom and Dad when I was little.) Anyway, the cake looks nice, and Jimmy says it's yummy....

How did you make it through all those years of 4-H without EVER baking a cake for the fair? Mine were never done well, and I certainly didn't win any big prizes, but I at least tried. (I hope I've improved through the years???)

All what years of 4-H cooking? I think I only took cooking one year; I didn't like it, and Mom didn't like fighting with me to make stuff for the fair.

And yes, your cakes are certainly prize-worthy!!
