The Attachment Didn't Come Through....

Have you ever sent an email and forgotten to attach an attachment? Though I don't usually forget attachments, I did miss one on a rather important email that I sent out to about a dozen people today. Within about 2 minutes of sending the e-mail I had received 3 responses. Two included the phrase "the attachment didn't come through" and the writer of the other one explained that "I was unable to access the attachment -- please resend." Having been the recipiant of emails with missing attachments from time to time, I have also sent such e-mails politely requesting that an attachment be "resent" when in fact it had never been sent at all. It's amazing how we try to be polite while still pointing out others' mistakes. Anyway, I promptly "resent" the attachment to everyone. In the body of the email I first typed "I feel stupid," but I utlimately deleted that phrase and opted for a slightly more professional "Let's try again."

I feel silly when I do that too, but I think it is a very common occurrence. It also gives you a chance to see how your colleagues respond to mistakes, and since no one was mean or tried to rub it in, they must be pretty good people at heart.
